Gary Sanchez, also known as the mythical creature, KRAKEN, bursted onto the baseball scene in a BIG way.
Sanchez came up with the Bronx Bombers in the Summer of 2016, and showed off his supreme level talent, belting 20 homers in just 53 games while hitting at a .299 clip.
In 2017, Gary followed up his fantastic rookie season with a .278, 33 homers, 90 RBI line; and helped the Yankees reach the ALCS as a huge and crucial piece of the Baby Bombers lineup.
In 2018, the Kraken battled some injuries and STILL had some solid home run and RBI numbers, but is looking to come back in 2019 with another historic-level season behind the plate in the Bronx.
Get to know, the man EL GARY, and enjoy!
The Nickname:
KRAKEN. At first I honestly did not know what a "Kraken" was. After hearing it for a week I asked my agent about it and he explained and showed me drawings. I have come to like it because I see some fans love it. So that tell me it's cool.
Walk up jam:
I switch it up a lot. Just depends on what I am listening to on my phone at any given time and what helps get me emotionally ready.
Daily Grind:
2018 was definitely that. A "grind" because I had a lot of injuries. This offseason I have focused on workouts that will help me get healthy.
Superstitions:
None. I'm more of a routine guy, than superstitions.
Go to Game-Day grub:
Anything Dominican. Rice is a must with any dish.
Favorite Game Day Drip:
Get to know, the man EL GARY, and enjoy! My custom Nike cleats. They used to have my Kraken logo on them, but that is now prohibited.
Favorite Off The Field Fashion or Apparel:
What’s your favorite off the field hobby(s)?
Get to know, the man EL GARY, and enjoy! Play some video games, but mostly like to enjoy my daughter when I have time off.
Coolest thing you’ve done OFF the field:
I have been blessed to be able to do a lot of things and travel to a lot of places thanks to baseball. No one moment or thing stands out.
Something particularly special about the lifestyle of ballplayer:
I think the mental grind is something that is probably unique to baseball. In other sports, I am sure you have it, but for us, it's not just day to day, but also inning to inning, pitch to pitch. Baseball makes you mature. Grow a thick skin and become mentally stronger.
