Last week, the MLB unveiled the brand new uniforms that will be worn during the 2021 MLB All-Star Game. Despite a last-minute location change, moving the game from Atlanta to Denver, the MLB was still able to include several subtle Colorado references in the jersey design. It looks like a few references to the original city, Atlanta, were kept as well.
Let’s start with the hats! The New Era caps will have a dark, navy blue base with the logo of each team on the crown of the cap. The logo is re-colored red, white, and blue with a purple star behind. On the point of each star is a white mountain cap to represent the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
Every team will be wearing the same navy blue ball cap but the question arises, why the red and white? It seems like the MLB still plans to use the same base Nike uniforms that were proposed for the All-Star Game in Atlanta and to keep things simple, the blue color just matches. Let’s take a look at the uniforms!
The two button style on these uniforms gives the “batting practice aesthetic” that we, personally, love. The American League will act as the Away Team and will be wearing the blue uniforms while the National League reps the white. On the cuff of the sleeves and inside the neck there is a unique floral pattern but at this point, we don’t know the significance of the design. On the right sleeve there is the usual, All-Star Game patch with an American flag on the left sleeve. There’s even an American flag on the Toronto Blue Jays uniforms. On the front of the uniform is each team's three letter abbreviation with their logo laid over the top.
Unlike past All-Star Games, these uniforms will actually be worn during the game itself. In the past, players would only wear the All-Star uniforms during workouts on Monday or during events like the Home Run Derby. This will end the long-standing tradition of teams wearing their “normal” home or away uniforms during the big game.
With the release of the new uniforms we’ve seen people on social media react in a number of different ways. Here are some of those responses! Let us know your thoughts - we’d love to hear what you think of these new All-Star Game uniforms.
